Silver ring care – How to keep your ring beautiful for a lifetime
Share
Silver is not a material that sits still in a shop window. It is alive.
It changes. It bears the traces of your history . And that's exactly what makes it so special.
Whether you wear a ring made of 999 fine silver or 925 sterling silver – both alloys need to be cared for if they are to bring you joy for a long time.
1. Why silver tarnishes – and why that's not a bad thing
Silver reacts with sulfur compounds in the air. This leads to a darker patina .
With 925 sterling silver, this occurs somewhat faster than with 999 fine silver , because the small amount of copper in the alloy promotes the reaction.
For many, this patina is a welcome effect – it gives the ring character and depth.
However, if you love the bright shine , you can counteract it with a few simple steps.
2. Cleaning at home
Gentle method: Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap , and a soft cloth . Then dry thoroughly.
Polishing cloth for silver: Gently removes tarnish and instantly restores shine .
Home remedy: Apply toothpaste , let it soak in, and then polish with warm water and a microfiber cloth without applying much pressure.
Ideally, you should use a white, mild toothpaste containing hydrated silica or calcium carbonate . These ingredients act as polishing agents .
3. Storage – how to protect your ring
Store silver rings in a dry and airtight container if you are not going to wear them for an extended period of time.
A velvet pouch or a jewelry box with anti-tarnish strips are ideal.
Avoid contact with chemicals (perfume, hairspray, chlorinated water) as they can damage the surface.
4. Your free refresher service
Whether it's 999 fine silver or 925 sterling silver, every ring from my workshop can come back to me at any time to be freshly polished or to have small flaws repaired.

This way you have the assurance that your ring will retain its quality even after years and will only become more beautiful through the traces of its journey .
